Day Packages

A brief insight to this spectacular “Jewel of Nature”

Our proximity to the Coiba National Park cuts navigation times down to a fraction of the time normally spent to arrive and return from Coiba.  We can spend up to two/three hours more in the park each day, giving us time for additional dives, exploring or even just relaxing on one of the parks spectacular beaches.  From out location, we also have daily access to a much larger area of the park and can offer day trips that include other very productive dive sites around Archipelagos out of the parks limits. And /or a mixture of both.

Our single day dive packages offer the opportunity to experience the vibrant marine environment of the park and also take in some of Coiba’s terrestrial sights and attractions.  

 

Day Package 1.   Location:  Northern Coiba Island.

  • Two Tank Dive Adventure. 
  • Coiba National Park, UNESCO World Heritage Site.
  • Duration; Approx 7 hours. 
  • Departure: 8.30am - Return 4 pm.
  • Experience Level: Novice to Advanced.

Tour Description

A guided tour of two of the regions “signature” dive sites.  A diversity and selection of shallow, protected reef environments, break rocks and spectacular pinnacles. The sites of this area of the park offer a little more protection from currents and surge; however boast a broad representation of the regions extensive marine life. Adorned with hard and soft corals, schooling fish, reef shark, schooling and bottom dwelling rays, turtles and a cornucopia of reef fish and exotic benthic life. 

During surface intervals, a visit to the Environmental Authorities, (ANAM), Coiba Island facilities and Visitors Center.

Relax on spectacular beaches and snorkel over extensive, vibrant reef communities.  

Throughout our day we will provide an orientation to the natural and cultural history of the Coiba National Park and broader region.

 

Two Tank Dive Tour, Price per person $135.  Minimum 2 persons.

Additional Dive/s + $35 per person per dive.  Up to a maximum of 4 dives per day.

 

Day Package 2.   Location:  Northern Coiba Island and Isla Canales Afuera.

Tour Description

Two dives on selected and diversity of this area’s best dive sites, shallow, protected reef environments to deeper break rocks and pinnacles. The sites are mostly protected from stronger currents and boast a broad representation of the regions marine life. From whale shark, (seasonal) White Tip Reef Shark, Rays and Turtles to bizarre reef dwellers such as the Frog Fish and Harlequin Shrimp. Extensive hard and soft corals and sponges, schooling Jacks, Spade Fish, Chub and Barracuda are frequent sightings.

During surface intervals, guided visit to the Environmental Authorities, (ANAM), Coiba Island facilities and Visitors Center.

Take lunch and relax on one of the areas spectacular beaches.

Day Package 3. Location: The Spectacular Pinnacles of the Archipelago of Contreras.

  • Two Tank Dive Adventure.

  • Duration: Aprox 6/7 hours.
  • Departure: 8.30am – Return  3.30pm.
  • Experience Level:  Novice, Intermediate too Advanced.

Tour Description.

Dive the spectacular pinnacles of the most northerly group of islands of the Coiba National Park, the Archipelago of Contreras. Submerged rocks bristling with an abundance and variety of marine life!  Contreras is an area of higher energy and a transit zone for many larger marine species, offers some of the regions most productive scuba diving, from reef dwellers to larger pelagic. It encompasses some of the regions most important reproduction sites, playing host to large aggregations of several important and commercial fish species at certain times of the year and specific moon phases. 

These islands play host to a healthy population of nesting marine birds, Yellow and Blue Footed Boobies, Magnificent Frigate birds, the Brown Pelican and the Neotropical Cormorants, plus a variety of migratory Turns.

Take lunch and relax on one of the areas volcanic sand beaches.

Snorkel over one of the most extensive and most thoroughly studied coral reefs of the region. A survivor of several significant El Nino events, a living library of the history of natural disturbances and natural cycles of the ocean in this region over the past 4,500 years.

Day Package 4.  Location:   Reefs and Pinnacles Western Coiba Island & Punta Hermosa

  • Two Tank Dive Adventure.
  • Coiba National Park, UNESCO World Heritage Site.
  • Duration: Aprox 6/7 hours.
  • Departure 8.30.  Return: 4pm.
  • Experience Level: Intermediate too Advanced.

The physical appearance of the western flanks of Coiba Island indicate that this is an area of much higher energy in comparison with the more sheltered northern and eastern sides of Coiba island. Here, we are closer to the depths of the continental abyss. The coastline and the dive sites are exposed to the surge and wave action of the open ocean and offer some of the most picturesque diving in the Park. High energy, high water and food exchange, which in-turn supports and attracts a whole host of marine life. The pinnacles here are adorned with Octo-corals, marine sponges and hard corals and play host to large cleaning stations for pelagic marine life, species that are usually encountered further west on the deep seamounts of the Hannibal and Banana Banks.  Giant Mantas and large Mobula rays are frequent visitors to these cleaning stations; clouds of Butterfly and King Angel fish clean the algae’s and unwanted parasites off these large pelagic visitors.

Large schools of predatory fish, Barracuda, Snapper, several species of Jack and large schools of Bait fish can be encountered on these sites. Healthy populations of White Tip Reef shark, the occasional small school of Scalloped Hammerheads, together with an extensive variety of the regions reefs critters and benthic life.

In this area of Coiba Island, several large tidal rivers wind their way through extensive, ancient mangrove forests into the ocean. This area is renowned for its healthy population of crocodiles and abundance of exotic, endemic trees, flowers, birds and insects.  During surface intervals, we take lunch and explore one of the many beaches of this beautiful wild and dramatic coastline.

Day Package 5.   Location:   Twin Archipelagos, Las Secas and the Archipelago of Contreras.

Tour Description

In less than the time it takes to navigate from Santa Catalina to Coiba, we can leave the northwestern reaches of the park en-route for the Archipelago of Las Secas and some of its excellent dive sites. The Witch (La Bruja) is a small offshore island/break rock that is a point of transit for many schooling fish and some larger pelagic.  Extensive cleaning stations and diverse bathymetry. Hanna’s Garden is a deep offshore pinnacle that starts at 90ft/28mts, a deep water garden of multi-colored black corals, every species of snapper known to the area, in great numbers, Schooling Barracuda, Jacks and Spade Fish, Eagle rays and Turtles and a healthy shark population. We have a wide selection of sites to choose from in Las Secas to accommodate all levels of experience. From Las Secas, we head back to the Archipelago of Contreras and dive one the this areas “signature”

dive sites, The Roller Coaster or a Fishermen’s Dream. At certain times of the year we will take in the spawning aggregations of several different species of snapper in one or the other of these archipelagos. Massive aggregations of large fish, normally deep-water species that gather to reproduce at certain times of year at specific sites.

Day Package 6.    Location:  Sites in the Buffer Zone of the Coiba National Park. Isla Simca & Pixvae

  • Two Tank Dive Adventure.
  • Duration: Aprox 6 hours.
  • Departure: 8.30am. Return: 2.30pm.
  • Experience Level:  Novice too Advanced.

Tour Description

Discover the marine life and dive environment of the mainland’s rugged coastline that forms the Buffer Zone of the Coiba National Park. An area abundant with fringing reefs, mangrove and inter-tidal estuaries, al key reproduction habitats, which offer protection for a broad range of juvenile fish and marine life. These sites range from shallow coral reefs in protected bays too deeper coastal pinnacles and islands, adorned with juveniles and a broad range of their larger predators. At times, juvenile fish form a living ceiling over divers. These sites support an abundance of Black Corals, Sponges, Anemones and diverse range of reef dwellers. White Tip reef shark, Spotted Eagle rays and Stingrays can be frequently encountered. Mostly protected from currents these shallower protected sites also offer a perfect environment to brush up on your dive skills, acquire a full Open Water Diver certification or experience the underwater world for the first time with a 3 Hour Discover Scuba Diving Course.  A selection of these sites offers favorable conditions for Night Dives, just 5 minutes from our Base.

Day Package 7      Full Day Snorkeling Safari. Islands and Reefs of Northern Coiba & Isla Canales Afuera.

Tour Description

A guided tour of three extensive, vibrant coral reef environments of the Coiba National Park.

Three contrasting sites offering a large diversity of marine life and habitat. Abundant reef dwellers, reef shark, marine turtles and a variety of schooling fish. An opportunity to witness the symbiosis between many coral reef dwellers.

We will take in one of Panama’s oldest coral reefs, over 4,500 years old with the vertical growth of over 8m/26ft.

We include, Fish and Coral ID cards on all snorkeling tours.

Visit to the Environmental Authorities, (ANAM) Ranger Station and Visitors Center on Coiba Island.

Time to relax, have lunch, on one or two of the parks spectacular beaches.

Specialty Dive Packages & Excursions.

For those divers who have training and experience to highly advanced levels and in the area of Technical Diving, we can offer specialized dive tours to some of the areas most advanced dive sites. Some of these sites start out of the range of the limits of Recreational Dive depth limits.

We carry a limited amount of equipment for these activities; however can provide a fully guided service to these special dive sites. We will dive to a maximum depth of 165ft/50mts on these sites and plan staged decompression stops on our way to the surface.

Our experienced Instructors/guides are also highly trained and experienced Technical Divers, who have explored and guided many groups of divers to these deep and unique sites of the region.
